Students Welfare Committee

Introduction:

The Student Welfare Committee is established as a key support mechanism of K.M.G. College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), responsible for addressing the holistic needs and well-being of students. This policy document outlines the objectives, composition, functions, and procedures of the Student Welfare Committee.

Vision :

Our vision is to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive campus environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, and achieve their fullest potential.

Mission:

Our mission is to promote the overall well-being, health, safety, and development of students by providing comprehensive support services, resources, and programs that address their diverse needs and challenges.

Objectives:

The objectives of the Student Welfare Committee are as follows:

  • To identify and address the social, emotional, physical, and academic needs of students through proactive and responsive interventions.
  • To foster a culture of care, respect, and empathy among students, faculty, staff, and administrators, promoting a sense of belonging and community.
  • To provide guidance, counseling, and referral services to students facing personal, academic, or social difficulties, empowering them to overcome challenges and succeed.
  • To advocate for student rights, interests, and concerns, ensuring their voices are heard and valued in decision-making processes within the college.
  • To promote health and wellness initiatives, including mental health awareness, physical fitness, nutrition education, and substance abuse prevention, to enhance the overall quality of student life.

Functions:

  • To provide a platform for students to voice their opinions, concerns and suggestions.
  • To organize various events and activities that promotes physical, mental, emotional and social well-being of students.
  • To provide guidance and support to students facing personal or academic difficulties.
  • To promote a positive and inclusive campus culture.
  • To provide financial aid or other forms of assistance to students in need.
  • To organize workshops, seminars, and other educational programs that enhance the skills and knowledge of students.
  • To collaborate with other college committees and external organizations to provide additional resources and support to students.
  • To facilitate the election of Student Council and monitor the activities of Student Council on a regularly.
  • To ensure that the First -Year students enroll in Co-curricular activities.
  • To coordinate with Office for ID cards, Bus Pass, Admission numbers of First Year students.
  • To guide the Departments for morning assembly prayer.
  • To conduct competitions in creative, cultural literacy, sports and general awareness activity.

Procedure:

The procedure for conducting meetings, making decisions and implementing recommendations shall be as follows;

  • Regular meeting of the student welfare committee shall be scheduled in advance with agendas circulated to members in a timely manner.
  • Meetings shall be conducted in a supportive and confidential environment, allowing for open discussion, empathy and collaboration.
  • Minutes of the meeting, including decisions taken and action points identified shall be recorded and disseminated to members for review and follow-up.
  • Follow-up actions shall be assigned to responsible individuals or subcommittees with clear timelines and deliverables.
  • Progress reports of the implementation of decisions and action plans shall be reviewed at subsequent meetings.

Review and Revision :

This policy document shall be subject to periodic review and revision as necessary to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with regulatory requirements, best practices and emerging trends in student welfare. Proposed changes shall be considered by the student welfare committee and approved by the appropriate authorities.
