Event 1: Awareness on Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer
An awareness program on Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer was organized by the PG and Research Department of Biochemistry and the K.M.G. College NSS together, held on 16th August, 2019 at the college seminar hall. The welcome address was given by Dr.J. Thirumagal, Head, Biochemistry Department. Mrs. N. Sathya, Staff Nurse, Government Hospital, Gudiyattam presided over the occasion and gave a powerpoint presentation on self examination to identify the breast cancer and also shared the knowledge about cervical cancer. The program was exclusive for the girl student of our college.
Event 2: Laboratory Visit
PG and UG final year Students with two staff members visited OIR Ref. Laboratory on 20th August, 2019. Initially Dr. A. Sait Sahul Hameed, Head and Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology and Zoology, C. Abdul Hakeem College, Melvisharam gave a discourse to the students about the importance of research and motivated them to pursue research as their career. The students were allowed in the molecular biology lab and were given instructions to handle PCR ( normal, gradient and real time), laminar air flow, shaking incubator, HPLC, biophotometer, sonicator and ultrasonicator, cooling centrifuge, bioreactor, lyophilizer, etc.
Event 3: Biochemistry Department Association Inauguration
The Inauguration of Biochemistry Department Association was organized on 28th August, 2019. The session was initiated by Dr. M. Agilan, Assistant Professor & Research Supervisor, Department of Zoology, Voorhees College, Vellore by lightening the kuthuvilakku. He is an environmental activist and coordinator of Eco Club. He delivered a key – talk on the importance and preparation of Compost manure and Vermiculture. The session was much active, inspirational and the students gained much knowledge on the importance and need of organic farming.
Event 4: Wealth out of WASTE
WEALTH OUT OF WASTE is one such craft which follows the environmental friendly principle and at the same time creates useful and picturesque objects out of waste products. In order to make younger generation aware of uses of waste material and to reducing waste to save our future, the ‘Wealth out of Waste’ competition was organized in on 16th September, 2019 for UG & PG students. Imaginative minds came together in a creative burst of energy. Mind-blowing, beyond expectation, fantabulous ideas were demonstrated by students. They prepared very creative and innovative models and art items from different waste materials. They used reusable and recyclable materials like news papers, shoe boxes, bangles, water bottles and much more.
Event 5 : State Level Seminar on “Recent Trends in Life Sciences”
PG & Research Department of Biochemistry and PG & Research department of Microbiology together organized a State Level Seminar in “Recent Trends in Life Sciences (RTLS-2019)” on 4th October, 2019 in the K.M.G. Seminar Hall.
Dr.M. Valarmathi, Principal, K.M.G. College of Arts and Science, Gudiyattam presided over the function. Our eminent guest of honour was Dr. A. Liyakath Ali, Member – Syndicate, Thiruvalluvar University, Head, Department of Biochemistry, Islamiah College (Autonomous), Vaniyambadi, who is well known for his renowned intelligence and expertise have given a remarkable lecture on “An Effective Molecular Biology Tool – PCR”.
At the end of the program, Director and Principal distributed the prizes to the winners of Poster presentation.
Event 6: Compost Production
I year PG Students of Biochemistry Department are preparing compost fertilizer using the garbage waste from the garden yard and canteen kitchen of our college with a concern to minimize the organic waste which are responsible for 30% trash in landfills.
