It gives me an immense pleasure to welcome all of you in this 19th Anniversary of our college. On behalf of Director, Principal, Staff and students, I feel very proud to invite our today’s Chief guests of honour our beloved members of the Management Respected Shri.K.M.G. Balasubramanian, Managing Trustee, Shri.K.M.G. Sundaravadanam, Chairman, Shri.K.M.G.Rajendran, Secretary, Shri.K.M.G. Muthukumar, Treasurer who have graciously accepted our invitation to be our chief guests of this happy and memorable day. I extend my warm and hearty welcome to the chief guests. It is my privilege to welcome the Director, esteemed guests, faculty members and my dear students. K.M.G. College of Arts & Science was established in the new millennium 2000 and the visionary was our philanthropist Shri.K.M.G Govindarasanar, the founder of Kunja Kowsalya Ammal Educational and Charitable Trust, Gudiyattam. His vision is to empower the economically poor, middle class and the needy students of this area by educating them to higher levels and make them fully employable and economically self reliant. The vision stated above is transformed into action by the progeny of our founder. With the initial strength of 196 in 2000 with five UG departments, our enrolment has increased to 2207 in this academic year 2018-2019. Now, the college is offering 10 UG programmes, 8 PG programmes, 5 M.Phil Programmes, and 1 Ph.D programme.
It is my privilege and at the same time I am delighted to present the glimpses of the academic activities and achievements of our college during 2018-2019.

STAFF PROFILE :
We have a strong band of faculty members. 77 staff members of our college have produced 100% results in the university examination in the papers taught by them.
Dr. S. Dinesh Kumar Department of Micro biology has been awarded Ph.D., degree in this year.
3 staff members have cleared the NET/SET examinations in this year.
Staff members from various departments have published research articles in the relevant journals and magazines. We congratulate them all.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES :
In addition to regular activities all the departments of our college have organized state level seminars by inviting experts in the respective disciplines to address our students. Students from various colleges affiliated to Thiruvalluvar University had an exposure to the recent trends in the respective subjects.
The list of activities of various departments during this academic year is as follows:
DEPARTMENT OF TAMIL:
- The Department of Tamil Organized Tamil Literary Association on 16.08.2018. The topic was “Semmozhi Arivom”. B.Shivaraj, Head, Department of Tamil, Islamiah College, Vaniyambadi was the chief guest. He delivered a special lecture on this topic.
- Tamil Literary Association Organized Several Competitions to motivate the students to participate in the extracurricular activities. Students actively participated in Elocution, Essay Writing, Poetry Writing and Drawing Competitions. Students who secured first three places were awarded with gifts and certificates.
- Sri Ram Chandra Mission and Heartfulness Educational Trust jointly conducted “ALL INDIA ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION-2018”. Our Students R.Jayasri II-B.Sc Microbiology and V.Shalini III-B.Sc Mathematics Won Two Prizes in the State Level.
PG DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH :
- English Literary Association is active in our college. It has conducted various competitions such as elocution, pencil sketch, calligraphy, tongue twisters, JAM short story writing and poetry writing.
- Intercollegiate literary fest ENGLISHIANA-2018 was organized on 21st August 2018. There were 386 students and 26 staff members from 15 colleges took part in the fest.
- The Department organized “English literary association” on 21st August 2018. The chief guest was Dr.S. Logarajan, Head, PG & Research Department of English Government arts college, Chidambaram. Member Syndicate Thiruvalluvar University. He addressed the students with his extraordinary speech about the importance of poetry.
- Programmes were conducted on various events like Poetry writing, Soliloquy, Fashion parade, Jam, Cultural, Literary quiz, Tongue twister, Mime show, Pencil sketch and Composing and singing the songs.
- K.Suguna Member of Academic Council Thiruvalluvar University, Vice Principal & Head, Department of English Sri Akilandweshwari Womens college, Wandiwash, was the chief guest.
- Overall championship was secured by Sacred Heart College(shift-II), Tirupattur.
DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION :
- The Department organized a state level management inter collegiate events on “M.I.C.E FEST-2K18” on 20th August 2018. About 300 students and 22 faculty members from various colleges participated in this program.
- On 30th January 2019 the department organized a workshop. on the topic “WE ARE ENTREPRENEUR” Mr.K.Manivannan, Manager, District Industrial Centre, Vellore & Mr.Srinivasan, Managing Director, Akshaya Silk & Sarees, Walajapet,
were the chief guests. They delivered a speech on this topic.
Ø The Department organized management games for the students on 30.01.2019.Different management games like Business Quiz, Ramp Walk, Paper Presentation, Best CEO, Ad-Zap, Pencil Sketch, Video making, Mime were conducted. Winners were awarded with prizes and certificates.
PG & RESEARCH DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE & COMPUTER APPLICATIONS:
- The Department organized a National Seminar on 28th-august 2018 on “Green Banking”. Dr.T.Mohamed Illiyas, Principal of Islamiah College, Vaniyambadi was the chief guest. He delivered a special lecture on the topic. More than 332 students from various colleges participated and were benefited.
- Our Students from M.Com and M.Com C.A. participated in one day National conference on “ROLE OF GST IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF INDIAN TRADE & COMMERCE” held on 24th September 2018 at Akilandeshwari Women’s College, Wandiwash.
- The department organized 30 hours duration course on GST with the tie up of Intelli-expert Pvt solution Ltd, 27 students were benefitted out of this programme
PG & RESEARCH DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE AND APPLICATIONS :
- The Department organized an Inter- Collegiate IT Meet titled I Blaze 18 on 23rd August 2018. Mr.G.Venkatesh, Head, Digital learning Department, ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, was the Chief Guest.
- He gave a special lecture on “RECENT TRENDS IN IT INDUSTRIES”. 223 students from 18 colleges participated.
- The Department has been conducting computer literacy program for non-computer students of our college and also school students from the near rural villages.
- Inauguration of Association of Computer Application was conducted on 21-12-2018, to motivate the students to participate in the extracurricular activities.
- The Department of Computer Application Organized a Workshop on 21-12-18. Mr.Ganesh, Senior Technical leader, Sigma connectivity, USA and Mr.Suresh Narayanan, Director, Skywalk Drobotics (P) LTD, Coimbatore were the chief guests. They delivered the lecture on “SOFTWARE EVOLUTION AND DRONE TECHNOLOGY”. More than 200 Students participated in this program.
- The Department of Computer Science inaugurated The Department Association on 30th January 2019. Dr.G.G.Lakshmi Priya, Associate professor, VIT University, Vellore was the Chief Guest. A Workshop on “DATA MINING & MACHINE LEARNING- IN INDUSTRY PERCEPTION” was also organized for the final year students.
ICT FDP ON INTRODUCTION TO MOBILE APP DEVELOPMENT:
Through ICT Academy, a Faculty Development Programme on Introduction to ‘Mobile App Development’ was conducted on 27/9/2018 to 28/9/2018 (Two Days) at Marudhar Kesari Jain College for Women, Vaniyambadi. Our staff member participated in this programme.
ICT FDP – “Teaching Techniques”:
Our college and ICT Academy jointly conducted Faculty Development Programme on “Teaching Techniques” on 7/12/2018 to 8/12/2018 (Two Days) for the faculty members. Twenty faculties from our college have participated. Ms.Barkavee Karunakaran of ICT Academy, Tamil nadu was the resource person and she have given two days special training on teaching techniques to the faculty members.
PG & RESEARCH DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS :
Ø One day state level Seminar was organized on Mathematical Analysis and Applications in Math-2018. Dr. S.BALA KRISHNAN, Asst. Professor, lslamiah collage, Vaniyambadi, Vellore was the chief guest. He delivered a special lecture on the above topic. Paper presentation event was also conducted. Faculty Members, Research scholars and students from various collages took active participation in this program. Ø On 22 nd December 2018 the greatest Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanajan’s Birthday was celebrated as “National Mathematics Day “ Quiz competition was also conducted and the Prize winners were awarded. Ø The Department organized Inauguration of Association of Mathematics on 25th January 2019. On that day a program was conducted on. “APPLICATIONS IN MATHEMATICS”, Dr. S. KARUNANITHI, Head, PG & Research Department of Mathematics, Government Thirumagal Mills College, Gudiyattam was the chief guest. He delivered a special lecture on this topic. Ø 29 students scored centum marks in 21 subjects in the University examinations.Ø Total number of papers in which the students got centum in 65.
PG & RESEARCH DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY:
- The Department organized a state level seminar on the topic “QUANTUM CHEMISTRY & SPECTROSCOPIC IDENTIFICATION OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS” on 20th August 2018.Dr.K.R.Sankaran Associate Professor & Head department of chemistry, Annamalai University, Chidambaram, was the Chief guest. He delivered a special lecture on ‘QUANTUM CHEMISTRY’.
- On the same day Dr.K.Geetha,Associate professor & Head, Department of Chemistry, Muthurangam Govt.Arts College delivered a special lecture on the topic “SPECTROSCOPIC IDENTIFICATION OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS”. More than 71 students and 5 Faculty members from 08 Colleges Participated in this seminar.
- The Department inaugurated chemistry Association under RUSAC on 28th January 2019. Quiz competition was organised at intercollegiate level. 200 students 10 faculty members from 9 colleges participated. The winners were awarded with prizes.
PG & RESEARCH DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY :
Ø The Department organized a State Level Seminar on 24-Aug-2018 on the topic “PHARMA ASPECTS AND QUALITY ASSESSMENT”. Mr.N.Babu, Manager, Oncology Molecule Laboratory, Biocon, Bangalore, was the chief Guest. He delivered a special lecture on this topic. 150 students and 12 faculty members from 8 colleges Participated. Ø The Department organized a PCR WORKSHOP on 13th August 2018. Dr.R.Sudhakaran, Assistant Professor, Department of integrative Biology, VIT University, Vellore was the Chief Guest. He delivered a special lecture on “DEMONSTRATION OF PCR TECHNIQUES”. Research scholars and staff members participated.
PG DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY :
- The Department organized a state level seminar on 27th August 2018 on the topic “BIO RESOURCE TECHNOLOGY” Dr.S Vijayanand, Assistant professor of Biotechnology, Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore was the chief guest. 195 students and 39 faculty members participated from various colleges.
- The Department Inaugurated Micro biology Association on 25th January 2019.Faculty members and students took participation in this program.
LIBRARY :
- The library is an important source for learning. In our college library the number of text books bought during 2018-2019 is 353, E- Journals 30, E-Books – 410, National and International journals// Magazines 07. Thesis and back volumes have been added.

WOMEN’S WELFARE CLUB :
Prof.G.Sasikala, Department of computer science is the convener of this club. Prof.V.Sarala Department of Tamil, Prof.G.D.Sharmila Carolene, Department of Business Administration are the members of this club. Ø The integrated child development services, Gudiyattam along with the Health club and Women’s Welfare Club of our college organized an awareness programme on “MALNUTRITION” for girl students. Ø It was held on 27-09-2018. Prof.R.Mahalakshmi, Head Department of Nutrition, FSM and Dietetics, Marudhar Kesari Jain college for women, Vaniyambadi was the chief guest. She delivered a speech on “IMPORTANCE OF NUTRITION TO ADOLESCENTS”.
HEALTH CLUB :
Prof.G.Shobarani, Department of Computer Science is the convener of this club. Prof.M.Divya Department of English, Prof.L.Arulmozhi, and Department of Mathematics are the members of this club. Ø On behalf of Health club in co-ordination with Agarwal Eye Hospital, Vellore, a free eye screening camp was conducted during on 21.12.2018 and 22.12.2018. Nearly 800 students and 100 teaching and non-teaching staff members were benefitted.
N.S.S ACTIVITIES
Dr.J.Thirumagal, Assistant professor of biochemistry and Prof K.Rajiv, Assistant Professor, Dept.of computer applications are the NSS Programme officers. Ø This academic year, NSS conducted two blood donation camps on different dates viz, 24.07.2018 and 11.01.2019. Students of our college donated 100 units and 65 units to the Government Hospital, Gudiyattam and CMC hospital, Vellore respectively. Ø A rally was conducted on 20.08.2018 at Ammananguppam village on “GO GREEN TO BREATH“.Ø International yoga day was celebrated on 21.06.2018 in the College. State yoga secretary Mr. R. Mohan delivered a special lecture on yoga practice.Ø Art exhibition was conducted on 08-01-2019. Theme was “KUPPAI ILLA ULAGAM“. It was organised by “Eeranilam” coordinator Mr.k.Tamilarasan, Eeranilam Education and Charitable Trust, Mannarkudi, Cuddalore. Ø Observing of anti leprosy day, a pledge was taken at Kelalathur village on 24.12.2018 in the presence of Mr.S. Adhisaya Ruban, RRC district manager, Vellore.Ø Sardar vallabhai patel birthday (31st-october) was celebrated as “NATIONAL UNITY DAY“. All the students took oath for national unity.Ø Seven days NSS special camp was conducted from 24.12.18 to 30.12.2018 at Keelalathur village. 100 students both boys and girls participated in it.The activities of the special camp were:ü Free general medical checkup for the people in Keelalathur village.ü Cleaning school and temple premises. Our management was very kind enough to sponsor Rs.35,000 for cleaning and painting these premises.ü Tree plantationü Special lectures were conducted on the topics of “Role of students in road safety”.ü “Disaster management and environment protection”ü “Effects of microwaves on environment”ü “Village assembly and its importance”ü “Post office bank service and its benefits”.
FINE ARTS CLUB :
Prof.D .Balaji, Head, PG Department of English is the convener. Ø The club organized the inter-collegiate cultural fest”EUPHORIA-2019″ on 05/01/2019 at KMG auditorium. 160 students and 10 staff members from 13 colleges took part in the cultural fest.Ø Dr.A.Liyakath Ali, Syndicate Member of Thiruvalluvar University & Head Department of the department of Bio-Chemistry, Islamiah college, Vaniyambadi was the chief guest. In this fest overall championship was won by Auxilium College, Katpadi.Ø The club organized inter-departmental competitions on 12-01-2019 with regard to “Samathuva Pongal Vizha”. The competition based on preparation of Pongal using millets, traditional kolam and traditional group dance. The winners were awarded with trophies.Ø The club organized intra college competitions like, Rangoli, Mehandhi, Face painting, Pageant show, Solo singing, Group singing, Solo dance, Group dance, Glass painting, Cookery, Flower arrangement, Creative craft, Hair dressing, Vegetable carving & Pencil sketch, Winners were awarded with prizes.Ø Competitions were conducted for staff members also.
KMG Quiz -2019 :
Ø Every year our college conducts Quiz competition at inter Departments Level. Prof.M.Ravichandran, Head, PG Department of Commerce C.A. and Dr.R.Manikandan, Assistant Professor of BBA are the conveners to conduct this program. Ø Students from all the departments participated in this competition. Department of English won the first place, Department of computer application and Department of bio-chemistry won the second and third places respectively.
CITIZEN CONSUMER CLUB :
Dr.D.Saravanan, Assistant Professor of commerce is the convener of this club. Ø The club organized an awareness program on “SAFETY OF CONSUMER GOODS AND CONSUMER DUTIES AND RIGHTS “on 28.08.2018. Mr.V.Sekar Special officer, from Taluk Supply Department was the Chief Guest and delivered a special lecture on this topic. Ø All the first year students participated and benefitted.
ROTARACT :
Prof. S.Ramesh, Department of English is the Convener of this club.
- The Club Conducted a mass Rally to create awareness among the people about the Dengue Fever on 11-1-2019 at Ammanankuppam Village, More than 100 Students took part in this program.
- “ROBINSON POND” in Gudiyattam town was cleaned on 22nd January 2019 by the Rotaract Students.
YOUTH RED CROSS :
Prof. G.Raghuvarman, Dept. of Biochemistry is the Convener of this club.
Ø On 10th-september 2018 our YRC volunteers Participated in the district level YRC Training camp held at D.K.M.College in Vellore.Ø Our YRC volunteers participated in the blood donation camp conducted by Thiruvalluvar University on 10.09.18 and donated 100 units of blood.Ø On 4th October 2018 Gudiyattam fire station officer and his team conducted a fire rescue demonstration programme.Ø Our college YRC student chairman K.Ranjith participated in the state level 3 days camp on “UN World Democracy Day” conducted by Indian youth parliament at Jaipur (Rajasthan state) from 15th September to 17th September 2018.Ø On 24.12.18 our YRC conducted a mass rally on creating Dengue Awareness in & around Ammanankuppam village.Ø Our YRC organized one day meet at Pernambut IELC School for mentally retarded kids and fulfilled some of their needs on 26th January 2019.Ø YRC conducted one day camp at Poigai Red Cross old age home on 30.01.19 and fulfilled some of their needs.
PLACEMENT CELL :
Dr.S.Chacko Vijai Sharma, Assistant Professor of Microbiology is the convener of placement cell for the academic year 2018-2019. Ø CHRYSALIS TRANSFORMING CAREERS conducted skill cum placement training program for all the final year UG and PG students on January 8th 2019.Ø IDBI FEDERAL conducted a project cum placement drive in which 123 students from various departments got selected.Ø Our M.Sc., Chemistry and M.com students participated in the interview conducted by the SANMAR GROUP OF COMPANIES, Chennai. They were selected for final HR interview.Ø Campus drive was organized in our college in association with AGS health, Vellore, 29 students were selected, through this drive.Ø Totally 151 students have been placed through our college placement cell. Some more companies are waiting to conduct campus drive next month we hope large number will get placed this year.
INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL (IQAC):
Prof: J.Srinivasan, Asst, Prof. Department of Computer Science is the Convener
- The IQAC has Conducted External Academic audit on 10th October 2018, Dr.T.Mohammed Iliyas, Principal, Islamiah College, Vaniyambadi and Dr.Adhikesavalu, Former Professer of Chemistry, Muthurangam Government Arts College, Vellore, acted as External Academic Auditors. During the audit, the Panel Members investigated the different aspects of the documents and authenticated supporting evidences. The Consolidated report showed the findings of the panel and put forth the Suggestions and areas of improvements possible in the future.
- AQAR 2017-2018 was prepared and Successfully sent to NAAC Web Portal and the same was also uploaded in Our College website also.
- One day National level Seminar on “QUALITY ENHANCEMENT IN HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM” was organized by IQAC on 10th January 2019. Dr.V.Arulmurugan, Assistant Professor of Commerce, Pondicherry University, Karaikal Campus and Dr.K.Kishore, Assistant Professor of Commerce, Voorhees College, Vellore were the Chief guests. They delivered Special lectures on parameters of NAAC, NIRF and “A Teachers Perspective and E-Content development for Quality Enhancement”. The Seminar witnessed the presence of 129 Participants from various colleges.
Our college is one of the full pledged research institutes in the rural area, which is providing higher education to the poor and middle class rural students at an affordable cost. I thank the Management for helping the poor students of this area to convert their aspirations into achievements.
I pray that the grace of God and benediction of our beloved founder IYYA will always be with us to continue this legacy.
